Ground faulttrouble

Edwards EST EST4: Ground fault

Edwards EST EST4·0 views·0 field notes

What This Code Means

The system detects a low resistance path (approximately 10 kΩ or less) between a circuit conductor and earth ground, or voltages outside the range of 12.3 VDC to 16.8 VDC during testing.

Common Causes

  • 1Pinched wire between the device and electrical box
  • 2Wire insulation is nicked
  • 3Conductor connected to data card has continuity to ground
  • 4Improper wire used

Resolution Steps

To isolate the ground fault, open the suspect loop (both conductors) at a point that will disconnect approximately 50% of the installed devices. After opening the loop, if the GND Fault event clears, the ground fault is located on the portion of the loop that has been disconnected. If the LED remains on and no devices restore, the short has been isolated to the first 50% of the loop. Continue increasing or decreasing the number of devices on the opened loop leg until you isolate the device or wire segment causing the problem.
