How do I perform a walk test on the EST4, and can individual SLC loops be isolated for testing?
The EST4 uses Service groups to perform testing on alarm input devices without placing the entire system into alarm. This allows you to isolate specific areas of the protected premises for testing while keeping the rest of the system functional. (Page 66) [1]
To perform a test using Service groups:
- Sign in with fire privilege 4 or higher and tap Project Tree on the Action bar. (Page 66) [1]
- Expand the tree and locate the target Service group. (Page 66) [1]
- Tap the group and select Activate SG on the Command bar. (Page 66) [1]
- To end the test, tap Restore SG (the test will also automatically time out after one hour of inactivity). (Page 66) [1]
For SLC loop isolation during troubleshooting, you can physically isolate portions of the loop to narrow down faults. For Class A loops, you can disconnect the return (loop A) terminals and jumper them to the loop B terminals to troubleshoot the circuit as a Class B loop. (Page 162) [1] To isolate a short or ground fault, you should open the loop at a point that disconnects approximately 50% of the devices and observe if the fault clears at the panel.
