How do I troubleshoot a ground fault on the Silent Knight 5820XL?
A ground fault occurs when the panel detects an unexpected flow of current from any terminal to the earth ground connection at Terminal 2 (Page 200) [1].
Note that connecting a computer to the panel via the 9-pin serial port will automatically trigger a ground fault message; this is normal and will clear once the computer is disconnected (Page 200) [1].
To isolate the source of a field ground fault, follow these steps:

Disconnect wiring connections from the panel one at a time (Page 200) [1].

Pause at least five seconds after removing each wire before moving to the next to allow the panel to update its status (Page 200) [1].

Monitor the display for the "GROUND FAULT" message to clear; the last wire removed when the message clears is the circuit causing the fault (Page 200) [1].
